  • Sometimes you see a product that is almost whimsical and you just can’t help yourself. This spoon is one of those products. Matsuda-san worked with the aluminum artisans at Westside 33 in Kyoto to develop this kitchen tool. The result? A unique aluminum spoon, hammered by hand in the back of Westside 33’s gorgeous store. Use this spoon to remove seeds from cucumbers, eat grapefruit or whatever else strikes your fancy.

What follows are Jizai Dougus Care and Usage Instructions translated from the original Japanese:

    • Wash with mild detergent.
    • Dry before storing.
    • Avoid using stainless steel scrubbers, as this can damage the product.
    • As aluminum is a soft metal, please avoid damaging it with hard items.
    • Please avoid using acidic or alkaline substances such as vinegar and baking soda as much as possible.
  • The Jizai Dougu collection of products was started in 2004 by Michiko Matsuda, a renowned cooking teacher and author of over 50 of cookbooks in Japan. Working in conjunction with artisan craftsmen across Japan, Matsuda-san has designed these products to incorporate the vast knowledge she has gained over the past few decades. They are both beautiful and highly functional — perfect for the home cook.
